Photo is an essential item for traveling now. We can see that elderly people take photos with smartphones these days. Kyoto shows many faces according to the season, like cherry blossoms in spring, orange leaves in autumn. Today, we would like to introduce you to the most popular instagram spots in Kyoto regardless of the season. Why don’t you show an awesome photogenic traveling story?

Yasaka Koshin-do【Higashiyama】

This is the most popular temple in Kyoto for instagram. You will see colorful balls in front and it is called “Kukuri-zaru” which comes from monkeys. It expresses a bind monkey which is patient with greed. This is like Ema for Japanese people. (Ema are wooden plaques that people write their prayers or wishes on) There is a famous coffee shop close by and people take a photo with the logo on the cup. It is a pretty rare temple because this temple is surrounded by colorful stuff.

It makes you wear those Kimonos when you get inside a 2 meters pole with Japanese modern patterns. But this fascination is not only during the daytime. They will turn up the lights at night time. The scenery which is colored in Kimono patterns makes you won’t believe you are in the station. You will lose yourself and feel like you are in fantasy.

Yasui Konpiragu (for geek)

What imagination of instagram do you have? Colorful? Pretty? So do I. But some people must have the feeling like “It’s not enough” or “boring”. So I will introduce you to geeks. The temple called Yasui Konpiragu is located close to Gion. They have a nickname like “Break off a relation shrine”. I never heard of that type of shrine compared with a good relation shrine. Most powerful spot is the big stone with some papers on. You can even visit this shrine at night. Personally, I like to read the Ema here because some of them are all black by letters which write their wishes about breaking up the relationship or so on. Anyway, You can wish for good relations too, so don’t forget about it.

Kyoto has two faces. The one is that we keep their traditional style and the other one is that we adopt the new culture. But the views of the street or city are kept by landscape regulations which are the most strict in Japan. Our image of Kyoto is kept very strict. We have new colorful spots or stuff these days but also have traditional culture which is quiet and calm.
