The Best Japan-Exclusive Häagen-Dazs Flavors!

All regions

Do you know that Japan has a lot of exclusive Häagen-Dazs flavors?

While Häagen-Dazs is sold in more than 100 countries, Japan is one of only three places in the world with a Häagen-Dazs production facility. Every month, unique limited-edition flavors are released exclusively for the Japanese market, making them a must-try treat for visitors.

To help you decide which ones are worth tasting, the K’s House staff sampled 13 Japan-exclusive limited-edition flavors and ranked them from best to least favorite. Whether you’re planning a trip to Japan or simply curious about these unique creations, here’s our ultimate ranking!

9 Limited-Edition Häagen-Dazs Cup Flavors in Japan (Mid-June 2026)

As of mid-June 2026, there are nine limited-edition Häagen-Dazs cup flavors available in Japan. Some are even exclusive to specific convenience store chains, making them especially fun to hunt down during your trip.

Even more exciting, two additional limited-edition flavors are scheduled to be released later this month, meaning there will be more limited flavors than regular year-round ones.

Although they’re called “limited edition,” many remain on sale for months—or even over a year—so availability can vary.

For this ranking, I focused exclusively on these unique seasonal flavors rather than the regular lineup. After tasting all nine, here’s my completely subjective ranking!

#9 – Green Craft: Roasted Hojicha & Brown Sugar Syrup (Released September 3, 2024)

This dairy-free ice cream is made with a soy milk base, yet it still delivers a surprisingly rich and creamy texture that’s remarkably close to traditional ice cream.

The roasted hojicha aroma is noticeable at first, but it’s quickly followed by an equally strong soy milk flavor. Rather than blending together harmoniously, the two flavors feel somewhat separate, making the overall taste a bit unbalanced.

The sweetness of the brown sugar syrup comes through in the second half, but it doesn’t add much excitement or create a memorable twist. While the lingering hojicha aroma is pleasant, I found the Kaga Bocha Hojicha Latte flavor (featured later in this ranking) to be much more refined and satisfying overall.

#8 – Green Craft: Affogato – Fragrant Espresso (Released February 3, 2026)

Like the previous Green Craft flavor, this one is also dairy-free and made with a soy milk base.

Despite its name, the espresso flavor is milder than expected. The espresso sauce is there if you scoop all the way to the bottom, but the soy milk flavor tends to overpower the coffee, making it feel less like an authentic affogato.

The soy milk base gives it a pleasant vanilla-like taste, but it isn’t as rich or creamy as Häagen-Dazs’ regular ice cream. As an affogato lover, I expected more.

If you’re looking for a coffee-flavored Häagen-Dazs, I’d recommend Coffee Cookie Sundae, which ranks higher on this list. Also, while this flavor contains about 30% fewer calories, it’s still far from being a low-calorie dessert.

#7 – Caramel Pudding Tart (FamilyMart Exclusive, Released April 14, 2026)

The first thing you’ll notice is the thick layer of caramel on top. Unlike the Crème Brûlée Cheesecake flavor (featured later), this caramel is a smooth sauce rather than a crunchy topping.

The caramel is so rich that it dominates almost every bite, making up about 80% of the overall flavor. As a result, the ice cream itself is surprisingly subtle, although it still captures the taste of a classic Japanese pudding.

I also tried the ice cream on its own, and it was not especially memorable. The graham cookie pieces add a slightly crumbly texture, but they reminded me more of roasted soybean flour than a tart crust.

Overall, it does a great job recreating a caramel pudding dessert, but the caramel is so overpowering that several other limited-edition flavors offered a better balance.

#6 – Chocolate Mint Extra (Released May 19, 2026)

This flavor features a natural-looking mint ice cream (without artificial coloring) packed with finely shaved chocolate throughout. The tiny chocolate pieces create a pleasant, slightly grainy texture in every bite.

The mint is slightly more prominent than the chocolate, leaving a refreshing coolness and minty aroma that lingers for several minutes after you’ve finished eating.

While it’s a well-balanced and enjoyable chocolate mint ice cream, it doesn’t offer anything particularly unique or surprising. That’s why it lands in the middle of my ranking rather than among the very best.

#5 – Coffee Cookie Sundae (Released May 23, 2025)

The rich coffee aroma hits you immediately, making a great first impression. Mixed throughout the ice cream are generous chunks of soft chocolate cookies and a salted chocolate sauce, adding plenty of texture to each bite.

What makes this flavor especially fun is that the taste changes depending on what you scoop. Some bites highlight the bold coffee flavor, while others are dominated by the rich chocolate cookies, with a subtle hint of salt that enhances the overall balance.

It’s a flavorful ice cream that keeps each bite interesting. If you’re a coffee lover, this one is definitely worth trying.

#4 – Crème Brûlée Cheesecake (Released February 3, 2026)

This flavor is packed with finely crushed caramel chips that stay delightfully crunchy, adding a satisfying texture to every bite. Their slightly bitter caramel flavor becomes more noticeable toward the end, giving the ice cream a nice change of pace.

Compared with Salty Honey Butter (ranked higher), this one has a more refined, cream cheese-forward flavor—closer to a classic cheesecake than a rich, buttery dessert. It’s light, elegant, and lets the cream cheese shine without feeling too heavy.

A delicious and well-balanced flavor that I’d happily recommend. ⭐

#3 – Kaga Bocha Hojicha Latte (Released April 21, 2026)

Unlike many of the other limited-edition flavors, this one is simple—no sauces, cookie pieces, or crunchy toppings. But it’s absolutely delicious.

The roasted hojicha aroma is the first thing you notice, filling your nose with a warm, toasty fragrance. As it melts, a rich latte-like creaminess gradually develops, while the gentle tea aroma lingers pleasantly after each bite.

It may be simple, but every element feels perfectly balanced. A beautifully crafted flavor that’s easy to enjoy from start to finish.

#2 – ROCKY CHUNKY Strawberry Black Cocoa (Released March 10, 2026)

I wasn’t expecting much from the colorful packaging—it didn’t have the premium feel I usually associate with Häagen-Dazs. But this flavor completely surprised me. It was fantastic!

The highlight is the incredibly crunchy cocoa cookie pieces. They add one of the most satisfying textures I’ve ever experienced in an ice cream, yet they’re never too hard or overpowering. Instead, they perfectly complement the smooth strawberry ice cream.

The strawberry flavor remains the star throughout, while the crunchy cookies and a subtle hint of salt make every bite more interesting. The strawberry coating and black cocoa aren’t especially bold on their own, but together they create a wonderfully balanced flavor.

If you already love Häagen-Dazs strawberry, this limited edition is an easy recommendation. The flavor is familiar, but the texture makes it feel like a completely new experience.

#1 – ROCKY CHUNKY Salty Honey Butter (Released March 10, 2026)

Taking the top spot is another flavor from the ROCKY CHUNKY series. While both flavors are excellent, this one feels even more balanced and satisfying.

Although it’s described as butterscotch-flavored, the rich buttery aroma reminded me more of a decadent cheesecake. Combined with the crunchy, salty butter cookies, it creates the impression of eating a buttery cheesecake tart rather than just an ice cream.

The salty finish is even more pronounced than in Strawberry Black Cocoa, and that’s exactly what makes it so addictive. You first get the rich, creamy sweetness, followed by the satisfying crunch, before the lingering salty notes perfectly round out each bite.

It has some similarities to Crème Brûlée Cheesecake, but the stronger buttery flavor gives it a richer, more indulgent character. For me, this was the clear winner of all the limited-edition cup flavors I tried.

## Crispy Sandwich: The Häagen-Dazs Treat Born in Japan

The Crispy Sandwich is one of Häagen-Dazs Japan’s signature creations. Inspired by the shape of a Mexican taco, this unique ice cream sandwich was developed in Japan and has since become popular across Asia.

Its biggest appeal is the combination of three different textures:

  • the crispy wafer on the outside,
  • the crunchy chocolate coating,
  • and the smooth, creamy ice cream inside.

For this tasting, I compared four flavors: the two limited-edition varieties available in June 2026, The Green Tea (released in April), and the long-time fan favorite, The Rich Caramel.

#4 – Luxury Strawberry Milk (Limited Edition, Released January 20, 2026)

The strawberry sauce at the center adds a pleasant burst of fruity sweetness and a touch of tartness, giving the flavor a nice contrast as you reach the middle.

That said, compared with the top three flavors, the individual ingredients don’t stand out as much. The strawberry white chocolate coating and milk ice cream are enjoyable, but they lean more toward overall sweetness than a distinct strawberry or milk flavor.

It’s a tasty Crispy Sandwich, but the other flavors left a stronger impression.

#3 – The Rich Caramel

The crispy wafer and crunchy chocolate coating stand out at first, while the caramel flavor starts off surprisingly subtle. As the ice cream melts, however, the rich caramel gradually becomes more intense, making each bite more satisfying than the last.

The caramel-flavored chocolate coating is especially flavorful and gives this sandwich a richer character than the other varieties. It’s an excellent choice, but the top two flavors deliver an even more memorable Häagen-Dazs experience.

#2 – The Green Tea (New! Released April 7, 2026)

From the very first bite, you’re greeted with a rich, authentic matcha aroma. Unlike the other flavors, where the texture grabs your attention first, this one lets the green tea flavor take center stage right away while still delivering the signature crispy and crunchy textures of the Crispy Sandwich.

The white chocolate coating is subtle and never overpowers the matcha. Instead, it enhances the overall balance, making this feel like a premium matcha dessert with an irresistibly satisfying crunch.

#1 – Tarte Tatin – Caramelized Apple Tart (Limited Edition, Released November 4, 2025)

This flavor starts with rich sweetness and the slightly bitter aroma of caramel before gradually revealing the fresh, fruity flavor of caramelized apples. The changing layers of flavor make every bite feel more indulgent than the last.

Combined with the Crispy Sandwich’s signature crispy wafer and crunchy coating, it offers the most balanced and luxurious tasting experience of the four flavors I tried.

Although it’s a limited edition, this would be my first choice if I could only buy one again. My top recommendation! 💡

Limited-Edition Häagen-Dazs Ice Cream Bars!

The Ice Cream Bar is another popular category in Japan’s Häagen-Dazs lineup, with limited-edition flavors released just as frequently as the regular ones.

For this comparison, I tasted the two limited-edition bars available in June 2026, along with the year-round favorite Vanilla Chocolate Macadamia, to see which one came out on top.

#3 – Vanilla Chocolate Macadamia

This bar combines three classic ice cream flavors: vanilla, chocolate, and macadamia nuts. As you eat, the flavors seem to unfold in that order—starting with creamy vanilla, followed by rich chocolate, and finishing with the buttery taste of macadamia.

The generous chunks of macadamia nuts add a satisfying crunch and plenty of texture. While it’s undeniably delicious, the flavor combination is quite traditional, so it doesn’t feel as unique or memorable as the two limited-edition bars ranked above it.

#2 – Royal Milk Tea Crunch (Limited Edition, Released January 20, 2026)

With its crisp chocolate coating, crunchy feuilletine (thin French pastry flakes), and smooth ice cream center, this bar delivers a wonderfully satisfying mix of textures. It actually reminded me of the Crispy Sandwich series.

The royal milk tea flavor is rich and authentic, capturing the taste of a sweet, creamy cup of milk tea. The tea sauce in the center is quite sweet—almost like brown sugar syrup—adding even more richness to each bite.

The combination of bold tea flavor and crunchy texture makes this a highly enjoyable bar. Just be prepared for a very sweet dessert—I recommend pairing it with a cup of unsweetened tea.

#1 – Pear & Milk (Limited Edition, Released June 9, 2026)

One of the newest Häagen-Dazs flavors, this refreshing bar is perfect for summer. It’s coated in two layers of pear—one made with pear juice and the other with real pear pieces—so you get juicy fruit flavor and satisfying chunks of pear in every bite.

The pear is the star at first, while the creamy milk ice cream provides a gentle backdrop. As you eat further, the balance gradually shifts, allowing the rich milk flavor to become more prominent. It almost feels like two different desserts in one bar.

Another staff member and I tasted these bars together, and this was our unanimous favorite. As a bonus, it contains roughly half the calories of the other bars we tried, making it an even easier recommendation!

How Is Häagen-Dazs Japan Different from Overseas?

Having tried Häagen-Dazs in several countries, I noticed three major differences between Japan and many overseas markets:

  • Some countries even have Häagen-Dazs scoop shops, which are much less common in Japan.
  • Japan focuses on smaller, single-serving cups, while larger pint-sized tubs are more widely available overseas.
  • Many overseas markets offer a wider selection of sorbet flavors, which are relatively rare in Japan.

These differences reflect Japan’s ice cream culture as a whole. Single-serving desserts are the norm here, whereas larger tubs designed for sharing are much more common in North America, Europe, and other regions.

The flavor lineup also varies greatly from country to country. If you’ve tried Häagen-Dazs both in Japan and overseas, I’d love to hear which flavors you preferred!

I hope this ranking helps you discover a new favorite during your trip to Japan. One of the best things about Häagen-Dazs Japan is the constant stream of creative limited-edition flavors released throughout the year.

For many Japanese people, Häagen-Dazs is considered a small everyday luxury, making it a great treat for yourself—or even a thoughtful souvenir.

If you’re looking to try more uniquely Japanese desserts, be sure to check out our taste test of taiyaki, a traditional fish-shaped pastry that’s especially popular around Asakusa, where K’s House Tokyo Oasis is located.
