Around ” Ueno ” & ” Asakusa “
Tourist spots nearby:
Ueno park, Ameyoko st., Sensoji temple, Tokyo Skytree
Ueno and Asakusa are located in Taito Ward in the east of Tokyo. Because both areas has a lot of tourist spots such as Senso-ji Temple and Kaminarimon in Asakusa, and museums, zoo and Ameyoko St. in Ueno, they are crowded with tourists every day.
Ueno Station is one of the main stations in Tokyo, with connections to the Shinkansen bullet trains from all parts of eastern Japan, as well as to other lines in Tokyo, providing excellent access from within and outside Tokyo. Asakusa which is next to Ueno is also easily accessible from the airport, with direct train connections to Narita and Haneda airports.
You can have many choices about accommodation such as hotels of various sizes to hostels in the both area and many of them are relatively inexpensive.
As there is a wide variation of tourist attractions and accommodation with good accessibility, it may be a good idea to chose this area to stay if you can’t decide where to stay.
Around ” Tokyo station ” & ” Nihombashi “
Tourist spots nearby:Imperial Palace、Ginza
The Tokyo Station-Nihonbashi area is located in the Chiyoda and Chuo wards in the middle of Tokyo. The area around Tokyo Station and Nihonbashi is a business area with offices of large corporations, and is one of the most exclusive areas in Tokyo with a sense of dignity and tradition, so hotels are more expensive than in other areas.
Tokyo Station is not only the terminus for both the East and West Shinkansen lines, but is also the most accessible by train as it is connected to all lines in Tokyo.
In addition, the Asakusa Line, which provides access to Narita and Haneda Airports, connects to Nihonbashi Station, and the Narita Express Line connects to Tokyo Station, providing good access from airports.
This may therefore be good for those who want to get to their accommodation from the airport or station without having to change trains as much as possible, or for those who do not want to stay in a bit of luxury.
Around ” Shimbashi Station “
Tourist spots nearby:Tokyo tower, Roppongi, Tsukiji Outer Market, Odaiba
Shimbashi, located to the lower left of Tokyo Station, is in Tokyo’s Minato Ward. Shimbashi is also a commercial area with numerous companies setting up offices and is famous as a “salaryman’s town”.
Shimbashi is also well connected to Narita and Haneda airports by the Asakusa Line, which provides access from the airports. However, the Shinkansen bullet train does not stop here, so you need to change trains from Shinagawa or Tokyo Station.
Shimbashi itself is not a tourist area, but there are Tokyo Tower, Roppongi and Tsukiji Outside Market, and the Yurikamome Line, which connects to Shimbashi Station, provides easy access to Odaiba nearby. It may be recommended for those who want to experience the city’s atmosphere.
Around ” Shinagawa Sta. ” & ” Haneda airport “
Tourist spots nearby:Sengakuji-temple, Shinagawa aquarium
Shinagawa Station and Haneda Airport are located in Shinagawa and Ota wards, around the bottom left of central Tokyo. Shinagawa itself is a business district lined with offices, but it is also close to Shibuya and Shinjuku, and also the Ueno Tokyo Line and other lines provide relatively easy access to central and eastern Tokyo, including Tokyo and Ueno.
The Tokaido Shinkansen bullet train connecting Tokyo to Nagoya and Osaka is connected to Shinagawa Station, so if Ueno is the eastern gateway, we ca say Shinagawa is the western gateway. This makes it a convenient location for those coming by Shinkansen from the Kansai region.
Shinagawa Station is also connected to the Keikyu Line, which connects to Haneda Airport. Although it’s bit far, the Keikyu Line has a direct connection with the Asakusa Line, so access from Narita Airport is also possible without having to change trains.
The average price seems relatively high, but the area is easier to get to by taxi or bus from the airport than other locations, so it may be good for those whose flights arrive or depart during trains stop running.
Around ” Shibuya Station “
Tourist spots nearby:Harajyuku, Yoyogi park, Meiji jingu shrine
Shibuya is located in Shibuya Ward, to the left of central Tokyo. It is the center of Tokyo’s latest culture and a hot area with dizzying development. It also has a good nightlife, so it may be a good choice for those who want to enjoy Tokyo throughout the night. Shibuya itself is a popular tourist spot, but there are also various other sightseeing spots nearby, such as Harajuku, Yoyogi Park and Meiji Shrine.
Various lines also connect to Shibuya Station, but because it in the west side of Tokyo, it may take a little longer to access to the east side of Tokyo such as Ueno, Asakusa.
Also, Shinkansen trains do not stop here, so you will need to change trains if you are coming to Tokyo by Shinkansen. Access between Narita Airport is possible by Narita Express or by bus, but there are no train connections from Haneda Airport, so you will have to change trains or take a bus on the way.
Around ” Shinjyuku Station “
Tourist spots nearby:
Tokyo Metropolitan Government Office、Shinjyuku gyoen park
Shinjuku is located in Shinjuku ward, to the left of central Tokyo.
It is one of Tokyo’s leading business districts, where numerous companies have their offices, and is also a city that never sleeps, with numerous commercial facilities and entertainment areas that are active both day and night.
Shinjuku Station is one of the main stations in Tokyo, with a variety of train connections, making it convenient for access to all parts of the city. Many express buses also arrive and depart from the station, providing good access to destinations outside Tokyo.
The Shinkansen does not stop here, so you will need to change trains if you come to Tokyo by Shinkansen, but you can access Narita Airport by train and bus, and Haneda Airport by bus without changing trains.
As mentioned above, access to and from Tokyo is good, so it may be good, for example, for those who are considering a day trip to around Tokyo during their stay.
Around ”Ikebukuro Station ”
Tourist spots nearby:サンシャインシティ
Ikebukuro is located in Toshima Ward, in the upper left-hand corner of central Tokyo.
Ikebukuro is also one of the busiest area where many people come and go throughout day and there are various commercial facilities and restaurants as well as offices.
Ikebukuro Station is also connected to various lines, so access to all parts of Tokyo is relatively good. The Shinkansen does not stop at Ikebukuro either, so you will need to change trains if you are coming to Tokyo by Shinkansen. From the airport, express buses are available from Narita and Haneda.
Conclusion
In this article, we have introduced some areas in Tokyo which have a lot of accommodation facilities. In summary, we can say the following about accommodation in Tokyo.
- Accessibility is basically the same everywhere due to the well-developed transport network.
- Prices are comparatively lower in the east of Tokyo (Asakusa area), where there are a greater number and variety of accommodation facilities.
In Tokyo, where the transport network is well developed, most places are accessible if you choose main areas, so you should chose where to stay depends on your own travel plans, how you want to get to Tokyo and the purpose of your trip.
If you can’t choose where to stay, I personally recommend the Ueno and Asakusa areas, which offer a good balance in terms of access, sightseeing and price.
Have a good trip!
