There are so many restaurants in Hakone to choose from, and each and every of them has something special to offer, so you might have a hard time deciding where go and what to get. But don’t worry, we are here for you and know some amazing places you might get interested in. Kinosuke

Kinosuke is a very popular restaurant in Hakone and is often visited by locals. There you can not only enjoy charcoal grilled meat and fish, but also see the whole process of how your food is getting prepared. Vegetables that are served in Kinosuke are locally-grown. One of the specialties this restaurant offers is “Himono” which is a Japanese traditional cuisine we recommend you to try. “Himono” is a cooking method, which in most cases refers to dried and salted fish. It takes only a couple of minutes to get there from Hakone Yumoto station and is one of the top spots in town. ☺

Naokichi

The most popular thing on the menu is yuba-don, which is made from high-quality soymilk and delicious hot spring water from Hakone Ohiradai.

Naokichi’s special is a bonito stock soup with yuba (tofu skin) and eggs, it is boiled in an earthenware pot and is one of the best meals in town.

Naokichi is an extremely popular place and there is always a line, so we recommend you to go there early, or you can try to go there after 14:00 when it’s less crowded.

Hatsuhana Soba (Honten・Shinkan)

Founded in 1934, this soba restaurant has the longest history in Hakone. Soba in Hatsuhana is made only from high-quality domestically produced buckwheat flour, there they also use locally-grown vegetables and eggs, so everything is super fresh and of the best quality. You can also try wild yam which is very popular and loved in Japan, it has a lot of minerals and vitamins which are good for health and beauty. Hatsuhana Soba is located near the river Hayakawa, so you can also enjoy the beautiful view while having the best soba in town.

Haikara Chinese Nisshintei

A long-established ramen restaurant founded in the first year of Taisho era. It is well known and loved in Hakone and has a long history. We think that it is important to mention that Nisshintei is the only restaurant in Hakone that offers a delivery service. You can try some amazing homemade noodles that you won`t be able to taste anywhere else. They have a pretty big menu, there are a lot of options to choose from, but we recommend trying their set meals which are absolutely amazing. In addition, there you can also buy some noodles as a souvenir which would make a perfect gift for someone special.

It takes only 1 minute to get to Suzuka from Hakone Yumoto Station. Suzuka is a traditional Japanese izakaya that offers a wide variety of options such as sashimi, grilled dishes, fish and meat dishes, here you can also try seasonal and local vegetables. This place is very popular among locals, so if you are interested in meeting local people and getting to know more about the area, this might be an ideal place to go to. They have table and counter seats, so Suzuka is a perfect choice if you come with a group of friends or alone. We are sure you will love the retro vibes and super relaxed atmosphere they have there.

Karuta is located a bit away from the station, it takes around 13-15 minutes to get there on foot, but it takes only 1 minute from K’s House, that’s why this place is so popular with our staff and guests. Karuta is one of the top restaurants in Hakone, it’s a family-run izakaya with a long history. It is well known for its amazing food and old-school cozy atmosphere. We highly recommend to book a table in advance.

Menu is big and has a wide variety of traditional Japanese dishes, here you can try authentic chanko nabe, amazing yakitori, yakisoba and many more. We can assure you that you will fall in love with this place.

A very small and cozy izakaya run by a cute old lady. This a is very popular place among locals, you can meet a lot of people who work in Hakone and come to Ishida to rest and just have a good time after work. Since the food is made by only one person it usually takes some time, so while waiting for your order you can have some drinks and enjoy the atmosphere. Food there is amazing, home-style authentic Japanese dishes won`t leave you disappointed.

Suehiro is a yakiniku restaurant that uses carefully selected Japanese meat. You should definitely try kalbi-don and pork-don if you ever have a chance! Delicious rice bowl covered with home-made sauce and lots of meat is something you will never forget. It is also a great place for ramen lovers, as Suehiro offers one of the best ramen in town. Great place to spend time with your friends or loved ones.

808 Monsmare was founded in 2018 and it immediately became one of the top-rated restaurants in Hakone. Here you can try authentic Italian cuisine, the chef of 808 Monsmare used to study in Italy and brought some special recipes back to Japan. You can also enjoy some amazing wines carefully selected by the owner who is actually a sommelier himself. This restaurant won’t leave you disappointed!

Kinopi House

Kinopi House is a western-style restaurant whose owner used to be the head chef at Fujiya Hotel, which is one of the oldest and well-known hotels in Hakone. Kinopi is a pretty small, but super cozy restaurant. They have a wide variety of dishes to choose from and prices are very affordable. We highly recommend trying their beef stew and jumbo hamburgers.
