What is Kyo-Machiya?

It usually means a wooden architecture built 100years ago or more.
And most of them used to be Merchant’s houses.

It has a long narrow approach to the entrance which is called “eel bed” by the local people.

It has a Japanese courtyard and backyard which makes it easy to get the sun-light and wind into the house. We can learn about our ancestor’s wisdom from it.
